Single parents in our congregation need help fixing or repairing household situations
• Volunteer your group to spend a day helping meet these needs
MHBC Donation Distribution
Small Group: High School Department
Distributing goods to organizations and community
• Serve the community by collecting and organizing all of the goods donated to MHBC and distribute to the appropriate organizations.
Bridge Project – Jasmine Square
Provides homes and services for disadvantaged families.
• After-school tutoring in math, reading, drama, arts & crafts for school aged children, reading to and playing with preschoolers.
Morgan Hill Safe Trick or Treat
Small Group: High School Department
Provides a safe alternative for children on Halloween.
• Help build booths and displays for the event, and serve at the event.
Harvest Crusade
An evangelism event lead by Greg Laurie and thousands of other Christians reaching out with the gospel of Jesus Christ to the greater San Jose region.
• Serve as an usher, follow-up counselor, prayer support, or general help.
DreamPower Horsemanship
Small Group: Adult Singles
Provides Christian based equine facilitated therapy for children and teens with emotional, psychological and behavioral problems.
• Opportunities to build a new tack shed, general painting and cleanup, or to help work with kids learning to ride horses.
Advent Group Ministries
Christian based group homes, foster care, counseling,
licensed drug and alcohol counseling. Three Christian-based
girls homes and three Christian-based boys homes.
• Friendship families- Role models to kids. Usually an ongoing commitment, but they do have game nights 3rd and 4th Saturdays.
• Work Parties- people come in and help fix up the homes: painting, yard work, one bathroom needs repair; could possibly combine work party and game night.
Community Solutions
Mental health services for families and children. Deals with child abuse/neglect/grief, domestic violence, rape crisis, foster care, independent living, young moms, overburdened
families.
• Building painting, play therapy doll house redone, do an activity at youth center, class for young moms (eg. cooking), hairstyling/makeup,
Senior Nutrition Programs
Work with elderly doing events and serving healthy meals
• Greeting seniors, serving meals and cleanup. Also have maintenance and landscaping needs.
Emergency Housing Consortium
Provides stability and homes for families at risk of being homeless. Teach skills for budgeting, job searching, ESL classes, tutoring, parent workshops, youth services.
• Need childcare for time that parents are in ESL classes or workshops (probably 2 people for about 1 hr).
• Possible maintenance projects/organizing/ set-up
CityTeam Heritage Home
Home for pregnant women in crisis. Provide room and board and educational support.
• Some rooms need to be redone: paint, carpets cleaned, new bedding. Dinner and games for girls. Baby showers have been done in the past.
CityTeam House of Grace
A Christian ministry where addicted, abused or homeless women can rebuild their lives, without being separated from their young children.
• Handyman work around the facilities.
Hillview Convalescent Hospital
Normal convalescent services
• Group visits or one on one going into patients rooms. Bible study. Playing cards or Bingo. Children are welcome.
St Josephs Family Center
Works on getting food to needy. Three areas Food pantry, Lords Table, and Intake office
Could use help in all three areas.
• Lords Table- serving meals T, Th, Sat arrive at 3:30.
• Food Pantry- help sort baskets M-F 9-12 or 1-4
• Intake office- processes vouchers so people can get their food.
Morgan Hill Community Action Group
Working in aid to seniors
• Help low income seniors that have maintenance needs.
Literacy Program
Work with adults 16+ who are not in school and have low reading/ math skills. Also work with ESL. All volunteer based.
• Need some computer knowledgeable people to help get systems upgraded/fixed.
