Our History

Morgan Hill Bible Church (MHBC) was started by the Conservative Baptist Association (CBA) along with Charles Youngkin in December of 1982. Services were first held in the Masonic Lodge in Morgan Hill. Pastor Charlie was with the church until its twenty-first birthday in December 2003.

In February 1994, the church moved to its current location on Monterey Highway. It's a wonderful story of redemption. In the early '90's, the owner of the "Silver Saddle Saloon" became a follower of Jesus Christ and converted his bar into a church. Soon afterward he learned that he had cancer. Sensing that the Lord wanted this site to continue to be a place of redemption, he felt led that MHBC was the ministry that God was calling to carry on the message of the gosepl in this redeemed bar.

This old bar being turned into a church is a dramatic reminder of the redeeming power of Jesus Christ, who loves to take broken people and to make them new - His very own children!

After Pastor Charlie left, the church continued to thrive under the leadership of the elders and Pastor Larry McElvain, as the lead pastor. In August of 2004, Dr. David Whitaker came to MHBC from Phoenix, AZ, where he had pastored for 13 years, to serve as the teaching pastor. Having previously pastored in the San Francisco East Bay for seven years, before moving to Phoenix, but felt a call to come back to the Bay Area and its great need for the gospel ("the good news") of Jesus Christ. Pastor Dave now serves as our lead and teaching pastor.
